Gurindji people granted native title rights to the historic Wave Hill station

54 years after the late Vincent Lingiari led a walk-off that ignited the Aboriginal land rights movement, the Gurindji people have been granted native title rights to the historic Wave Hill station where it all began.The stockmen who participated in the 1966 walk-off were honoured during the hearing. The Federal Court decision means the traditional owners will now be able to negotiate compensation with resource companies.
