Heavily armed NSW police to patrol places of worship and mass gatherings

The New-South Wales Government is making its police rapid response unit permanent, in an Australian-first measure that will allow officers to use long-arm firearms around the Sydney area. The move will see 250 police deployed around high profile public buildings, places of worship and mass gatherings. Religious community leaders are welcoming the permanent security but have voiced concern over its long-term impacts.
