The Prime Minister has paid tribute to former federal Labor leader Simon Crean at a state funeral in Melbourne. He described him as a 'man of decency, kindness, and boundless generosity. Mr Crean, who died suddenly in Germany while working on a free trade agreement with the European Union, was remembered as a giant of the workers' movement, as well as a loving husband and devoted father.
