Immigration minister replaces controversial 'direction 99' rule

After weeks of pressure, the Albanese government has replaced a controversial ministerial direction that saw an independent tribunal reinstate visas of non-citizens convicted of crimes. Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has revealed he's re-cancelled 40 visas in the last week, and put in place a 24-hour protocol to be notified of all visa decisions by the tribunal.
