Inflation rise overshadows climate bill in first sitting day of parliament

A fresh economic shock for the nation today as inflation hit a new high. Inflation has risen to 6.1 percent in the year to June - that’s the highest rate since 1991. Treasurer Jim Chalmers described the rise as confronting and warned of more to come. The rise overshadowed an important day in the House of Representatives - the government's introduction of a bill to legislate its 2030 emissions reduction target into law.
