Israel President Herzog meets ceremony and condemnation in Canberra

Israel's president Isaac Herzog says relations with Australia have entered a new beginning after talks with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra today. It's the Israeli head of state's third day in Australia as he pays his respects to the 15 lives lost in the Bondi terror attack. Hundreds of protestors gathered on the lawns of Parliament to protest the visit. While he received a warm welcome from political leaders, the government also issued a statement today critical of the Israeli security cabinet's approval to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank.
