Key deadline for returning water to Murray-Darling Basin pushed back

Legislation aimed at delivering the Murray Darling Basin Plan in full is a step closer, as Labor strikes a deal with the Greens. The Plan's 2024 deadline will be extended in exchange for extra protections for the environment and First Nation's water access. But the deal has been poorly received by some regional communities that rely on water for irrigation.
