Labor says halt on AI data centres ‘pretty dopey’

Industry and Science Minister Tim Ayers has labelled calls for a moratorium on the construction of data centres a “pretty dopey position”. Community groups remain concerned about the impacts of the energy-intensive AI infrastructure, after the government confirmed the world-leading standards would not apply to current server farms.
