Meta starts blocking under-16s as social media ban approaches

Today marks the unofficial start of the under-16s social media ban. Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram and Threads, has started removing half a million accounts belonging to teens. The government says the social media ban, due to officially start next Wednesday, will protect young people from online harms like cyber bullying and harmful content.
