Migration rates rebound but COVID impact still lingers

Overseas migration has been the largest contributor to population growth in Australia in recent decades, but travel restrictions in response to the pandemic saw the first net overseas migration loss from Australia since World War II dipping to a record low at the end of the 2021 financial year when 85,000 more people left our shores than arrived.
