Political leaders capitalise on new inflation days out from the election

In the closing days of the election campaign underlying inflation has hit the Reserve Bank's target band serving to provide a tailwind as the Prime Minister sells his credentials at the National Press Club. The latest figures are slightly higher than expected, which might mean more mortgage relief is imminent, but the Coalition's still banking on voters in economic stress sending a message at the ballot box.
