Solomon islanders vote

For the first time, Solomon Islanders have voted in joint national and provincial elections, with caretaker Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare aiming for a fifth term in office. The incumbent has pledged to strengthen diplomatic ties with China, which has sparked concern among regional neighbours, including Australia and the US. Observers from across the country and abroad have praised the voting process.
