Solomon Islands marks 45 years of independence

Solomon Islands' Prime Minister has accused the US of weaponising the rights of LGBTIQ+ people as a condition of receiving foreign aid. Manasseh Sogavare made the comments as the Pacific nation held its independence day celebrations. Mr Sogavare will visit China next week, as the contest between Beijing and Washington for influence in the region heats up.
