In just one year the world produces around 52 million tonnes of plastic pollution. Researchers have used artificial intelligence to model waste management around the globe and what happens to it. In Australia, three million tonnes of that plastic ends up in landfill each year and a laboratory in Perth is developing an alternative - which can breakdown without leaving a trace.
