UN monitor abandons Australia visit to detention centres over lack of access

Human rights groups say Australia faces international embarrassment after a United Nations monitor was forced to abandon its tour of the country's detention centres. The UN's Sub-Committee on Prevention of Torture has blamed New South Wales and Queensland's refusal to grant it unrestricted access. But the two states deny they've obstructed inspectors.
