World swimming body bans transgender athletes from women's events

Debate over transgender participation in sport has escalated after swimming's world governing body FINA voted to effectively ban transgender athletes from elite women's events unless they have transitioned by the age of 12. It follows controversy over the issue of swimmers who were born male, but then transitioned, and went on to win women's races.
