WA legspinner Usman Qadir has done his quest for Australian citizenship no favours after being busted for allegedly driving 50km/h over the speed limit.
The Lahore-born Qadir, who missed the Perth Scorchers' 27-run BBL win over the Melbourne Stars on Sunday night, is expected to receive a court summons over the incident in East Perth.
"We are disappointed that this has occurred," WACA chief executive Christina Matthews said in a statement on Monday.
"The WACA takes road safety very seriously and we understand that speeding is a key contributor to accidents on our roads.
"We expect all our players and staff to drive responsibly and our players know their behaviour has an impact on the community as role models."
Police spoke to Qadir, the son of Pakistani wrist-spinning great Abdul Qadir, over the matter and he has fully cooperated with investigators.
The 25-year-old has picked up six wickets at an economy rate of 8.46 in his seven matches for the last-placed Scorchers (4-9).
The son of a gun made his first-class debut for WA against Victoria last October, collecting four wickets at an average of 59.25 across his two Sheffield Shield games.
Qadir, who moved to Australia in 2016 after playing first-class cricket in Pakistan, told The Age in September he hoped to receive Australian citizenship in the next two years ahead of making a tilt for selection at the 2020 World T20.
There was no mention of any possible internal disciplinary action in the WACA's brief statement.
