Western Force to face Robbie Deans again

The Western Force will face an invitational World XV rugby side to kick off their 10-match 2019 campaign.

Robbie Deans will return to Perth this month as coach of an invitational World XV to help promote Andrew Forrest's Global Rapid Rugby competition.

Fixtures for the Western Force's 10-match 2019 campaign were released on Friday, with their first game against a World XV to take place on March 22 at HBF Park in Perth.

That World XV side is set to feature World Cup winners such as prop Wyatt Crockett, scrum-half Andy Ellis, and hooker Corey Flynn.

Australian flyer Digby Ioane is also set to be part of the squad.

The Force will then play a series of games in Perth and in the Asia Pacific region, as well as one game in Brisbane.

Deans coached the Panasonic Wild Knights against the Force in Perth last year as part of the World Series Rugby exhibition series.

The Force won that game 50-45.

Forrest initially wanted to launch his eight-team Global Rapid Rugby competition this year.

But the billionaire mining magnate has postponed it to 2020 after running out of time.

Global Rapid Rugby will feature a host of rule changes designed at speeding up the game and keeping the ball in play for longer.

The experimental rules, which features seven-point 'Power Tries', will also be used during the Force's games this year.
