Australia have named a 28-strong shooting team for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games that features athletes at both ends of the age spectrum.

The contingent includes several well-known names like Rio Olympic gold medallist Catherine Skinner, Laetisha Scanlan and veterans Bruce Quick and David Chapman.

But there is also a host of newcomers, with seven members of the squad aged under 20 - the youngest being 15-year-old South Australian Tori Rossiter.

"It's always great to have a mix of young and old on a team because it gives the youngsters a chance to get mentored by the experienced athletes," said Chapman, who won gold in the 25-metre rapid fire pistol at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

"I'm pretty confident of the sport's future in Australia with the talent of these athletes here today."

Four of Australia's six gold medallists from Glasgow are in the team - Scanlan, Chapman, Daniel Repacholi and Laura Coles.

The other two, Warren Potent and Adam Vella, are retired, but Vella is Shooting Australia's national high-performance shotgun coach and has been helping to nurture the next generation.

Chapman will compete at his fourth Commonwealth Games and his second on home soil.

But he still has plenty of ground to make up on Quick, 58, who will be shooting at his seventh Commonwealth Games and his sixth in a row.

Australia's most-famous sporting shooter, Michael Diamond, was not in contention for Gold Coast after his selection hopes were dashed last year by three firearms convictions - although he was acquitted of them all in October.

Events will take place at the Belmont Shooting Complex in Brisbane's south - one of only two Commonwealth Games sports not to be staged on the Gold Coast.

AUSTRALIA'S COMMONWEALTH GAMES SHOOTING TEAM:

* Pistol: David Chapman, Daniel Repacholi, Bruce Quick, Elena Galiabovitch, Lalita Yauhleuskaya, Sergei Evglevski, Kerry Bell.

* Fullbore: Jim Bailey, Ben Emms.
