Kerrie Meares is a Brisbane-based former professional track cyclist. During her career she won 2 Gold Medals at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and further medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. She was awarded ‘Queensland Sportswoman of the Year’ and was a contender for the Australian 2004 Olympics team. She attributes her success as a cyclist to her coach, Peter Day who was like a father figure during the years she had to travel long distances from home for training activities and competitions.

Post retirement from cycling, Kerrie and her wife Emily run the Track Cycling Academy in Brisbane where she coaches and mentors the next generation of young cyclists. Kerrie’s other commitments as a Client Liaison Officer in the Community Services Sector has allowed her to support young people who provide a significant caring role for a family member, relative or friend. Kerrie helps young carers realise their potential by implementing funded supports to help them remain engaged in their education through to year 12.
