· USA will reach the knockout phase with a win.
· USA can reach the knockout phase in three consecutive World Cup appearances for the first time. They were eliminated in the round of last 16 in 2010 and 2014 (failed to qualify in 2018).
· If USA draw against Iran, they will be the third team in the current format (from 1998 - 32 teams, 1-2 in group progress) to be eliminated despite being unbeaten in the group stage. In 1998, Belgium were eliminated after three draws and in 2010 New Zealand finished third in the group after three draws.
· USA finished bottom of their group on all four occasions they were eliminated in the World Cup group stage (1950, 1990, 1998, 2006).
· USA lost their final group stage game in seven of their last eight World Cup appearances. The only exception in that run was a 1-0 win against Algeria in 2010 (91st-minute goal by Landon Donovan).
· USA can remain unbeaten in all three of their group matches for the second time, after 2010 (D-D-W).
· USA are winless in their last five World Cup matches (W0-D3-L2), since a 2-1 win against Ghana in the 2014 group stage. They have registered one longer winless run at the World Cup: six games from 2002 to 2010 (W0-D3-L3).
· USA could keep successive clean sheets at the World Cup for the first time since their first two games in 1930: 3-0 wins versus Belgium and Paraguay (they conceded 6 and 7 goals respectively in their following two World Cup matches).
· USA's only win in their last seven games (W1-D5-L1) was a 5-0 victory against Grenada in Austin, Texas, in the CONCACAF Nations League on 10 June 2022 (including four goals by Jesús Ferreira).
· Timothy Weah (1) can become the fifth USA player to score multiple goals at a single World Cup, after Bert Patenaude (4 in 1930), Landon Donovan (3 in 2010 & 2 in 2002), Brian McBride (2 in 2002) and Clint Dempsey (2 in 2014).
· Yunus Musah celebrates his 20th birthday on the day of this game (29 November). The most recent player to score a World Cup goal on his birthday was Patrick Vieira in France's 2-0 group stage victory against Togo on 23 June 2006 (his 30th birthday). Note: as of games played to the end of 26 November.
· Weston McKennie, Tim Ream, Sergiño Dest and Kellyn Acosta wil be suspended if booked.
