Mexico Stats
· Mexico will qualify for the knockout stage with A1) a win AND Argentina lose against Poland, A2) a win by at least a three goal margin AND Argentina draw AND Mexico end up on more goals scored than Argentina, A3) a win AND Poland lose AND Mexico make up the goal difference with Poland. Note: If teams are equal on points, the following tiebreakers will be decisive: 1) goal difference, 2) goals scored, 3) head-to-head, 4) fair play. Mexico have received six yellow cards, Poland four.

· Based on Gracenote's updated predictions, Mexico have a 12% chance of reaching the knockout phase. They had a 49% chance in the pre-tournament forecast.

· The most recent occasion Mexico participated in the World Cup and were eliminated in the group stage was in 1978. El Tri were eliminated in the round of last 16 at each of the last seven World Cups (1994-2018).

· Mexico won their final group stage match at only one of the last seven World Cups (W1-D3-L3), a 3-1 victory against Croatia in 2014.

· Mexico have failed to score in a national record four consecutive World Cup matches. Only Bolivia (5, 1930-1994), Algeria (5, 1986-2010) and Honduras (5, 1982-2014) failed to score in five successive World Cup games.

· Mexico can remain goalless at a single World Cup for the first time. This is Mexico's 17th appearance at the World Cup.

· El Tri's most recent World Cup goalscorers were Carlos Vela and Javier Hernández in a 2-1 group stage win versus Korea Republic on 23 June 2018.

· Mexico failed to score from any of their last 48 goal attempts at the World Cup, including 15 this tournament (five on target, six off target and four blocked).

· Mexico can fail to score in three successive fixtures in all competitions for the first time since three friendly fixtures in October-November 2018. Gerardo Martino took over from interim manager Ricardo Ferretti after that run.

· Gerardo Martino was Paraguay manager when they drew 1-1 against Saudi Arabia in a friendly in Geneva on 20 August 2008.

· Roberto Alvarado, Néstor Araujo, Érick Gutiérrez, Héctor Herrera, Héctor Moreno and Jorge Sánchez will be suspended if booked.

Saudi Arabia Stats
· Saudi Arabia will qualify for the knockout phase with A) a win, B) a draw AND Argentina lose against Poland OR Poland lose by at least a three-goal margin. Note: If Saudi Arabia draw against Mexico and Poland lose by a three-goal margin against Argentina, the total amount of goals scored will be decisive for Saudi Arabia and Poland. If that is equal, Poland will progress based on a better head-to-head result against Saudi Arabia.

· Saudi Arabia were knocked out in the group stage in four of their previous five appearances at the World Cup. They reached the round of last 16 at their debut World Cup in 1994 (eliminated 3-1 by Sweden in Dallas).

· Based on Gracenote's predictions, Saudi Arabia's chances of reaching the round of last 16 have dropped from 72% to 33% following their 2-0 defeat against Poland in their second group stage game of this tournament.

· Based on Gracenote's pre-tournament World Cup forecast, Saudi Arabia had a 23% chance of reaching the knockout phase. This was the third-lowest of all 32 teams before the tournament, ahead of only Cameroon (13%) and Ghana (14%).

· All four of Saudi Arabia's victories at the World Cup (W4-D2-L12) were achieved by a one-goal margin: 2-1 against Morocco (1994), 1-0 against Belgium (1994), 2-1 against Egypt (2018) and 2-1 against Argentina (2022).

· Saudi Arabia failed to score in eight of their 16 fixtures in all competitions in 2022. They only scored multiple goals in their 2-1 victory over Argentina in their opener of this tournament.

· Salem Al-Dawsari (2) is one of three players to score multiple World Cup goals for Saudi Arabia, alongside Sami Al Jaber (3) and Fuad Amin (2). Only Amin (2 in 1994) has netted multiple World Cup goals for the Green Falcons at a single edition of the tournament.

· Hervé Renard can become the third French manager to guide a team other than France to the knockout phase of the World Cup. Both of the previous two were in 2002: Bruno Metsu for Senegal (quarter-finals) and Omar Troussier for Japan (round of last 16).

· Abdulelah Al-Malki is suspended for this game. Saud Abdulhamid, Nawaf Al-Abed, Abdulelah Al-Amri, Ali Al-Boleahi, Salem Al-Dawsari and Mohammed Al-Owais will be suspended if booked.

Head-to-Head: Saudi Arabia v Mexico
· Saudi Arabia are winless in all five matches against Mexico (W0-D1-L4), only avoiding defeat in a 0-0 friendly draw in Créteil on 3 June 1998.

· Three of the five games between these nations were in the group stage of the Confederations Cup. Mexico defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 in Riyadh in 1995, 5-0 in Riyadh in 1997 and 5-1 in Mexico City in 1999.

· The most recent meeting between Saudi Arabia and Mexico was in the group stage of the 1999 Confederations Cup. El Tri won 5-1 in Mexico City on 25 July 1999 courtesy of goals by Cuauhtémoc Blanco (12', 19', 68', 77') and José Manuel Abundis (21'). Nawaf Al Temyat (62' penalty) netted for the Falcons.

· This is Saudi Arabia's first World Cup match against CONCACAF opposition.

· Mexico have won all four World Cup games versus teams from the Asian Football Confederation (all group stage): against Iraq (1986), Korea Republic (1998, 2018) and IR Iran (2006).
