IR Iran Stats
· IR Iran sustained their heaviest World Cup defeat in the first matchround against England. They lost 6-2 at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha. Mehdi Taremi (65', 90+13' penalty) netted both Iran's goals.
· In that game Hossein Hosseini equalled the most goals conceded by a substitute goalkeeper in a World Cup match: also six by Dimbi Tubilandu in Zaire's 9-0 defeat against Yugoslavia in the 1974 group stage.
· Iran (W2-D4-L10) have only won two matches at the World Cup (2-1 versus USA in 1998, 1-0 versus Morocco in 2018). They have lost their second group stage game in each of their last three World Cup appearances without scoring (4-0 defeat on aggregate).
· Iran have scored five goals in their last five World Cup matches (1-1-0-1-2). They only scored six goals in their first 11 World Cup matches.
· Iran have not netted in the first-half of a World Cup game since Yahya Golmohammadi scored in a 3-1 defeat against Mexico on 11 June 2006.
· Iran have only once conceded multiple goals in two back-to-back World Cup matches at a single edition. They lost 3-1 to Mexico and then 2-0 to Portugal in 2006 under Branko Ivankovic.
· Iran can lose three successive matches for the first time since November-December 2009 (3). That run included a 3-2 away defeat against Qatar in the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
· Mehdi Taremi (2) is the only player to net multiple World Cup goals for IR Iran. He could become the first player from an AFC nation to score three goals at a single World Cup (Note: Korea Republic, Japan and Australia will play their first game before Iran's match versus Wales).
· Sardar Azmoun (41) is third in IR Iran's all-time leading goalscorers, behind only Ali Daei (108) and Karim Bagheri (50). Azmoun came on as a substitute against England and struck the crossbar.
· Alireza Jahanbakhsh (7) and Ehsan Hajsafi (7) are Iran's highest appearance makers in World Cup matches. Jahanbakhsh was substituted at half-time against England.
· Jahanbakhsh and Morteza Pouraliganji will be suspended if booked.

Wales Stats
· Wales drew 1-1 with USA in Al Rayyan in the first matchround. Gareth Bale's 82nd minute penalty, netted after he was impeded, equalised Timothy Weah's (36') first-half goal.
· Bale's goal against USA was the first goal Wales have scored at a World Cup since Terry Medwin scored against Hungary in the group stage of the 1958 World Cup. That span of 64 years and 157 days is a record for longest gap between consecutive World Cup goals.
· Wales have drawn four of their six World Cup matches (W1-D4-L1).
· Wales (W1-D4-L0) are unbeaten in all of their five World Cup group games (includes group stage play-off in 1958 versus Hungary). Only one other country has never been beaten in a World Cup first group stage: East Germany (W2-D1-L0 in 1974).
· Wales have conceded exactly one goal in five of their six World Cup matches, the exception was a 0-0 draw with Sweden in Solna in 1958.
· Wales (W0-D2-L4) can go seven matches without a win for the first time since May-November 2003 (7) under Mark Hughes. Their last win was the 1-0 victory against Ukraine in the World Cup play-off match that sealed their qualification for Qatar.
· Wales have only failed to score once in their last 14 matches. That came in their final match before the World Cup, a 1-0 home defeat against Poland in the Nations League.
· Gareth Bale can surpass Chris Gunter (109 appearances each) as Wales' all-time leading appearance maker. Both Bale and Gunter could earn their 110th cap in this match but Gunter was an unused substitute in the first match against USA.
· After netting versus the USA, Bale is the first player to score for Wales at both the EUROs and World Cup. He netted three goals at EURO 2016. He can become the second player after Ivor John Allchurch (2) to net two goals at the World Cup.
· Aaron Ramsey (20) is two short of moving joint-fifth alongside Dean Saunders (22) in Wales' all-time leading goalscorers. Ramsey has failed to net in each of his last six international appearances.
· Kieffer Moore was unbeaten in his first seven appearances for Wales (W5-D2-L0). He has lost three matches in his last five appearances for his country (W1-D1-L3).
· Gareth Bale and Chris Mepham will be suspended if booked.
