From tropical China to the hills of Limburg, and a late Ardennes withdrawal, it is a busy week across the cycling world.

At the Tour of Hainan, Stage 2 shook up the general classification as Guillermo Thomas Silva won the demanding jungle finish from Danzhou to Wuzhishan and moved into the race lead, after Serbian sprinter Dušan Rajović had taken Stage 1. The five day race spans 896 kilometres from Haikou to Sanya and brings together WorldTeams, ProTeams and Continental squads.

Attention now shifts to the Amstel Gold Race in the Netherlands, where both the men and women tackle the climbs of Limburg between Maastricht and Valkenburg. With no Pogačar or Van der Poel, Remco Evenepoel stands out as favourite in the men’s race, while Demi Vollering headlines a stacked women’s field. Defending champions Mattias Skjelmose and Mischa Bredewold return, and both races are live and free on SBS and SBS On Demand.

There is also a late Ardennes twist with Juan Ayuso ruled out through illness after abandoning Itzulia Basque Country with stomach issues. Tests revealed a viral infection that sidelines him from Amstel Gold, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège Bastogne Liège, forcing his team into a last minute reshuffle of leadership plans.
