Former RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Gia Gunn has taken to social media in the hope of raising the funds necessary to complete her upcoming gender-confirming surgeries.
Gunn, who came out as transgender to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility last year, has started a crowdfunding campaign to raise the estimated $30,000 needed for surgeries.
“Unfortunately, surgery is very expensive, especially to do it safely and successfully,” she wrote on the page.
She continued: “There are times in our life when we need to ask for help and for me, this is one of those times.”
Gunn has recently completed a series of 30 YouTube videos called "30 Days in Transition", through which she aims to help viewers "embrace change" in their lives.
"After many years of contemplating surgery, I have taken the very important step both mentally and spiritually to arrive at this very critical point in my transition," she explains in the final video.
She added: "I am now ready to align my body with the woman I've always dreamed of being."
Gunn said she has been aware of her gender since she was five years old.
"Once I discovered transitioning to the opposite gender was an option, I committed to that journey and dreamed of modifying my body to match my true self," she wrote on her crowdfunding page, adding that she was committed to becoming a voice for the transgender community.
"Helping each other is a critical part of our community and I appreciate all the love and support you have shared with me," she wrote.
"I pledge to you to continue to be a voice for the trans community and help educate others on their journey."
