Animated series Tuca & Bertie, starring Ali Wong and Tiffany Haddish, has been axed by Netflix after only one season, leaving fans of the show outraged.
The show, created by artist Lisa Hanawalt, won rave reviews from critics and was praised by viewers for its quirky comedy and diverse cast of voice actors.
The show followed the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building. It features a cocky, carefree toucan Tuca (played by Tiffany Haddish) and anxious, daydreaming songbird Bertie (Ali Wong).
“Lisa Hanawalt created a relatable yet whimsical world in Tuca & Bertie,” a Netflix representative said in a statement, according to Vulture.
As fans of the series expressed their frustration on social media, Hanawalt confirmed the news, saying she remains hopeful that she'll be able to find a new home for her beloved characters
"Netflix is not ordering a second season of Tuca & Bertie," Hanawalt confirmed in a tweet.
She added: "Thank you to everyone who loves and supports T&B, and to everyone who was comforted and felt like this show gave you a voice.
"I’m hopeful we can find a home for Tuca & Bertie to continue their adventures."
