The secret romance between Hollywood heartthrobs Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins is set to be depicted on the big screen, with Zachary Quinto and J.J. Abrams announcing the production of a biopic titled Tab & Tony.
The relationship was first confirmed by Hunter in his 2005 memoir Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star.
Perkins was best known for his iconic role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, while Hunter was recognised for his work on films including Damn Yankees! and Battle Cry.
Perkins passed away from AIDS-related pneumonia in 1992.
87-year-old Hunter's long-term partner Allan Glaser will also work on the film as a producer, while Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Doug Wright is developing the screenplay.
Movie-goers were quick to hit social media with their ideal casting choices, with many championing Academy Award-nominated actor Andrew Garfield as having an uncanny resemblance to Perkins.
There are currently no production or release dates for the film.
