Fresh from her musical comeback, noughties pop star Vanessa Amorosi has joined the lineup for Heaps Gay's inaugural Qweens Ball, set to take place in June as part of Sydney's Vivid Festival.

The songstress, who has returned to the spotlight with her single 'Heavy lies the head', will cement her status as a local queer icon by performing classic hits and tracks from her forthcoming album.

Tailor-made for members of the local LGBTIQ+ community, the performance-based event will be held against the iconic backdrop of Sydney's Town Hall, with an exciting lineup of performances to take place on one of the city's most recoginsable stages.

Presented in partnership with Vivid Sydney, the ball's theme for 2019 is Winter Is Coming - a homage to the final season of Game of Thrones, encouraging party-goers to lean into their very own dark winter fantasy. Amorosi aside, musical guests  include pop electronic singer and songwriter Kota Banks, experimental pop duo Collarbones and a number of Australian DJs including MIMI, Mowgli May and Fur Coat.
Showcasing some of the city’s best queer performers, the inclusive event will invite emerging, established and even brand new drag queens take to the stage and strut their stuff for all of Sydney to see - and will be hosted by comedians Victoria Zerbst and Jenna Owen of Freudian Nip and SBS Viceland's The Feed.

Minister for Tourism, Stuart Ayres, said the ball would be spectacular for the LGBTIQ+ community and city visiters alike.

“Visitors to Vivid Sydney love to explore the city’s iconic venues in search of unique experiences during the festival," he said in a statement.

He added: "In 2018 Vivid Sydney welcomed 2.25 million attendees and delivered over $172 million in tourism spend to the NSW economy. The largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere, Vivid Sydney and Heaps Gay Qween’s Ball is sure to impress in 2019."

Heaps Gay is set to announce a program of immersive art experiences for the night.

HEAPS GAY QWEENS BALL will be held of Saturday June 8th - Sydney Town Hall, tickets are available here.
