Fans of the DC cinematic universe have taken to social media to celebrate news that actress Zoë Kravitz will play Catwoman in the upcoming film The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves.

Kravitz will play Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman opposite Robert Pattinson, who has been cast as Batman for the superhero blockbuster, which is due for release in 2021.

The iconic role has previously been played by Anne Hathaway, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Eartha Kitt.

Speaking about the casting choice during a red carpet interview with Variety, Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman said of Kravitz: "She's the perfect anything; she's pretty much the perfect woman"

Needless to say, fans were in agreement.
Reeves, who directed the last two Planet of the Apes films, took the Batman reins from Ben Affleck back in 2017.

“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale,” Reeves said of the upcoming film to the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year.

“It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that.

"He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been.”
