8 reasons Dami Im is basically an honorary Swede

You might have heard that our Dami Im has officially arrived in the Eurovision host city of Stockholm, Sweden, but did you know she's already practically a local?

Dami Im’s no stranger to Sweden. The Aussie songstress recorded some of her best-selling songs there, including Gladiator, Super Love and Smile! She loves Swedish flavours (read: meatballs) and the snow, and has worked music producers in the know. In other words, Im is totally in with this year’s Eurovision host nation.
Sweden is a mecca for pop stars. Over the past 20-plus years, the nation’s songwriters, producers and even music video directors have helped to launch hundreds, possibly thousands, of artists into worldwide fame (more on that here). There are tonnes of celebs who collaborate with Swedish music-makers – from Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, to Pink, Usher, Britney Spears… and our very own Dami Im!

Here’s why Dami’s sure to win the hearts of Swedes (and not the vegetable variety):

1. She’s pals with Swedish music legends

Yep, dearest Dami travelled to Solna, Sweden last year to record a few tracks with legendary music producer Jorgen Elofssen. Why’s he so spesh? The guy’s produced songs for the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Westlife and Il Divo. Hit songs, y’all!
You go girl!

2. She looks really cute in a ski jacket <3

3. She’s strikes an awesome power pose

Dami’s a woman on a mission, and for that we salute her! In case you’re wondering, she’s standing in front of Friherre Nils Ericson, a Swedish mechanical engineer and famed railway builder looking all determined outside Stockholm’s Central Station.

4. Dami’s down with the cool kids of Sweden

Nope, Dami’s not posing with teenage fans, but the Aussie-Swedish trio from her X Factor series! Known as JTR, the lads actually competed in Melodifestivalen, the televised Swedish singing competition that acts as a precursor to Eurovision! Alas, they didn’t win – we would have loved to see John, Tom and Robin face-off Dami… again!

5. She loves the local fare

Naww, aren’t these guys the cutest?

6. She’s got the golden touch

Dami teamed up with the talented songwriters from Trinity Music to produce her hugely popular songs Gladiator and Super Love from her Heart Beats album. Sounds like they have a little love for her, too!

7. She’s not afraid to get her hands… snowy

8. She always remembers to smile

Dami also joined forces with songwriter collective The Kennel in Solna, Sweden to write her track Smile. We love this description of the process: “After what felt like hours of walking through thick snow and climbing slippery hills on a freezing day in Sweden, I finally got to the recording studio to write with a group of talented people. After such a crazy adventure I’m so glad we focussed on staying positive and the result was this feel good, joyful and uplifting song.”

The Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast on SBS’s Eurovision Weekend - Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Grand Final Sunday 15 May, 7.30pm on SBS, with LIVE early morning broadcasts from 5am on Wednesday 11, Friday 13 and Sunday 15 May.
