Epic movies like Star Wars: the Force Awakens, James Bond: Quantum of Solace and Terminator Salvation, require big budgets to match. You would assume that the director, producer and lead actors get a big cut, but where does the rest go?
While no two movies are the same, Vanity Fair have gone to a cost consultant to put together a hypothetical budget of a $200,000,000 blockbuster and the results are interesting to say the least.
As you would expect, the lead actor is well compensated for their efforts and is generally paid $12,000,000. They aren’t so generous with the second lead however, who only collects a fraction of that at $4,500,000.
But it’s still better than the third lead who picks up $1,500,000 while the fourth gets just $500,000.
The going rate for a “day player” actor is between and $21,050 and $960, with many earning less than the cat, who if there is one, fetches around $13,000.
Being an assistant to the lead actor isn’t bad either and pays around $64,500, but you can only expect half of that if you’re doing the same job for the second lead.
Away from the acting cast, the director takes home the next biggest pay packet with a cool $4,000,000, while executive producers each pocket $1,100,000.
The lead writer earns $3,250,000, CG artists receive $1,298,560 each and the costume designer gets $315,000. The movie’s theme song meanwhile, costs $750,000.
