Mary Poppins is coming back and she's being reincarnated as the always lovely Emily Blunt.
Walt Disney Pictures have revealed they will be making a sequel to the 1964 classic that will be set in London during the Depression years - the same era in which author P. L. Travers penned the original novel.
Slated for release in time for Christmas 2018, the reboot will also feature Broadway star and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda as a street lamp-lighter by the name of Jack.
The new installment will catch up with Jane and Michael Banks as adults and through a bit of chim-chimney magic, see the joy return to their lives following a personal loss.
Rob Marshall (Into the Woods) will be directing and producing the film and says it will be a labour of love.
"The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an original movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins, and her message that childlike wonder can be found in even the most challenging of times, to a whole new generation," he says.
Reaction to the news has been mixed on Twitter, with some rejoicing at their childhood memories being brought back to life, while others may need to take it with a spoon full of sugar.
The announcement comes a month after Disney confirmed that Emma Stone will star as Cruella de Vil in a 101 Dalmatians spin-off, while sequels for Maleficent and the Jungle Book reboot are also in the works.
Interestingly, this direction seems to somewhat contradict a famous quote by Walt Disney himself who once said, "Around here we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious... and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths".
