The Sea Inside

Director: Alejandro Amenabar

Starring: Javier Bardem, Belen Rueda, Lola Duenas

An Oscar-winning masterpiece about a quadriplegic's desire to die with dignity. Based on the true story of Ramon Sampedro, who was left a quadriplegic after a swimming accident some 28 years prior, the film focuses on the final months of Ramon's life and his attempts to win the right to an assisted suicide through the courts. Although this is a poignant and moving film, it is also full of humour.

Lust, Caution

Starring: Tang Wei, Tony Leung

An espionage thriller set in WWII-era Shanghai, in which a young woman, Wang Jiazhi, gets swept up in a dangerous game of emotional intrigue with a powerful political figure, Mr Yee.

The Beat That My Heart Skipped

Director: Jacques Audiard

Starring: Romain Duras

28-year-old Tom is following in the footsteps of his thuggish father, who made his money from dirty, and sometimes brutal, real estate deals. Tom has innate musical talent and is torn between dreams of being a concert pianist and the reality of life as a ruthless debt collector.

The tale of two lost souls, torn between desperation and an intense longing for hope, in which 20 year-old Sibel, desperate to escape the suffocating traditional discipline of her family, convinces disillusioned alcoholic Cahit to marry her.

The Girl on the Train

Starring: Emilie Dequenne, Catherine Deneuve, Michel Blanc

This tense thriller about modern culture, young woman becomes the centre of a media firestorm when she fabricates a story about being the victim of an anti-semitic attack on the Paris metro.
