What's it about?

The second film from Pablo Berger, the director of Torremolinos 73 (an SBS favourite), this black-and-white gothic fantasy is a celebration of silent cinema. Set in 1920s Spain, the Snow White-inspired tale stars Maribel Verdú as a female bullfighter.

Eccentric French extraordinaire Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) adapts Boris Vian's novel about a woman's bizarre new illness: the poor thing has a flower growing in her lungs. The character, played by Amelie herself, Audrey Tautou, finds healing – and love – by way of a delightful dreamer (Roman Duris).


Blue Jasmine

Starring: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hopkins

What's it about?

In her first film with Woody Allen, Australia's Cate Blanchett stars as a sulky, heartbroken New York socialite in need of mending after her marriage to Alec Baldwin falls apart. Her first step? Taking a trip to San Francisco to see much less well-off sister, played by Happy-Go-Lucky's Sally Hawkins.

Inspired by a true story, Somali pirates jump aboard a cargo ship in the Indian Ocean and take the crew hostage and demand a massive sum for their safe release. The film comes from Tobias Lindholm, the Danish co-writer of Mads Mikkelsen's The Hunt and the much-loved hit television series Borgen.
