In a wide-ranging interview with Gay Star News, Sir Ian McKellen spoke candidly about his housing run-in with Taylor Swift as well as the controversy surrounding upcoming film Stonewall.

The comments about being evicted by Taylor Swift came when he was asked how it feels to be "part of Taylor Swift's 'squad'".

Much has been made of Taylor Swift taking celebrity endorsement to a whole new level, using her high-profile friends - squad members - to guest appear in her videos and on stage at her concerts.
That hardly puts me in Taylor Swift’s team, does it?
There had been recent public displays of affectionate respect between Swift and McKellen.
But McKellen suggested the good will had soured.

“When I was living in Peter Jackson’s apartment in New York, Taylor Swift bought it while I was there and I was thrown out before I wanted to leave!” McKellen said.

“That hardly puts me in Taylor Swift’s team, does it?”

McKellen had worked with director Peter Jackson on The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

Gay Star News, speaking to McKellen after the Manchester Pride parade, also asked the actor his thoughts about the upcoming Stonewall movie.

McKellen raised the criticism of the movie that followed the release of its trailer: "I know there’s some disagreement with the representation of the principal players."

However McKellen was reluctanct to make any judgement before anyone has seen the film.

"No one is likely to have made a film about the Stonewall Riots in order to distort the story. But they may have had to do certain casting to get the film made. The Harvey Milk film [Milk, 2008] was romanticised. It was wonderful. I loved Pride [2014], that was romanticised, fictionalised."

McKellen can currently be seen in Mr. Holmes.
