The artists of Eurovision 2017: Brendan Murray – “Dying To Try” (Ireland)

The County Galway ex-boy bander might be just the artist to restore Ireland's once great status at Eurovision.

Rosy-cheeked former Hometown member Brendan Murray has had a bit of a makeover, and gone from charming and scruffy to preppy. Murray is another of the under-21 boy brigade heading to Kyiv and vocally he’s the most accomplished. “Dying to Try” is a big, anthemic love song that delivers the best key change out of all 43 songs contesting this year.

The talent of Murray is indisputable and his internal selection as representative is a step in the right direction as Ireland, the most successful nation at Eurovision, has had a woeful run of results in recent years. Murray will be dying to undo this string of misses and will need to call on the collective luck of his homeland if he’s to sneak into the grand final.
