The artists of Eurovision 2017: Manel Navarro – “Do It for Your Lover” (Spain)

Can this performer's laidback, er, charm overcome his song's shortcomings?

Objectivo Eurovisión 2017, the Spanish national selection competition for Eurovision, was a tight race this year with two contestants tying at the end of the show. This result dictated that the national jury would be responsible for splitting the tie and choosing a winner. Their decision awarded 21-year-old Manel Navarro a ticket to Ukraine.

What they were thinking is anyone’s guess. “Do it for Your Lover” is pitched as a cruisy and chilled track that reflects a casual surfy lifestyle, but its ambition is far from its result. It’s a lazy song where Navarro simply repeats “do it for your lover” ad nauseum.

What’s worse is that Navarro thinks he’s a little bit of alright, happily spouting that he “looks good on camera”. Navarro’s going to be doing it all the way to the bottom of the scoreboard. Nul points.

Grand final performance
