The participants gathered at the estate where Chaplin spent the last 25 years of his life, which opened a year ago in the village of Corsier-sur-Vevey near Lake Geneva as Chaplin's World museum.

"There have been big Charlie Chaplin gatherings in the past, but this is the first to be certified by an officer of the law," Annick Barbezat-Perrin, a spokesman for the museum, told AFP, via The Local.

Chaplin was born in England in 1889 and died on Christmas Day in 1977, aged 88.

The museum houses a studio showing his movies, wax figures, recreations of some of his film set pieces, and a restaurant called The Tramp.
