The tall and strong central defender is unlikely to feature in Germany's second World Cup Group F game against the Nordic team after hurting his neck in training, Germany coach Joachim Low said.
The world champions, who suffered a shock opening loss to Mexico, must avoid another defeat which could see them crash out at a World Cup group stage for the first time in 80 years.
How to watch the match in Australia with German commentary
Australia's German community (and all lovers of football, of course!) can watch the game live and free on SBS, in English. The broadcast starts at 3.30am, with kick-off at 4am AEST.
If you prefer to hear the German commentary - and frankly, who wouldn't - head to SBS Radio German (analog or digital).
You can also access SBS Radio German on the SBS Radio App or FIFA World Cup App.
And how does that special trick work again?
Christian Froelicher and Mathias Brueck's will introduce the match from 3.30am AEST.
The duo will cross live to our community and discuss the match at half-time and at the end. The actual 90 minute match commentary will be provided by ARD in German, live from the Fisht Stadium, Sochi.
The trick, of course, is to do both: Watch the match on SBS Television and listen to the German commentary on SBS Radio. As per the previous World Cups, going all the way back to 2006.
Last but not least, a technical note
Please be patient in the first few minutes of the match as our technicians will need to sync the video to the German audio. You wouldn't want to hear the ARD commentator shout "goal!" whilst the ball is still sailing towards the keeper!
Enjoy Germany vs Sweden with SBS - it promises to be a classic nail biter!
