Dubai-based airlines Emirates has told SBS Hindi that it will continue to provide a Hindu meal option to its customers.

"Based on feedback from our customers, Emirates confirms we will continue to provide a Hindu meal option, to make it easier for our Hindu customers to identify and request this option," Emirates said in a statement sent to SBS Hindi.

"Emirates has always provided a wide variety of special meals that can be ordered at least 24 hours in advance to cater to our customers with medical or religious dietary requirements, including our Hindu customers," the statement reads.

Emirates had taken Hindu Meal option off its menu. Some had criticised the airline for its decision.

The airline’s spokesperson had told SBS Hindi earlier, “As part of our continuous review of the products and services available to customers, Emirates can confirm that it will discontinue the Hindu meal option. We constantly review our offering, taking into consideration customer uptake and feedback. This helps us improve service efficiencies. Food and drink form an integral part of any Emirates flight experience and our menus are created by leading chefs to reflect the culture and preferences of Emirates’ diverse customer base.”

Options like Vegetarian Jain Meal, Indian vegetarian Meal, Kosher meal were still available. Muslim meal, Raw vegetarian meal, Strict European vegetarian meal, Vegetarian oriental meal etc. are also there.

However, the decision did not go down well with many. Some people protested the decision on Twitter. Mr Krishna Mitra, who claims to be a "diehard nationalist, political activist, proud Bengali Hindu" tweeted, "Dubai-based carrier @emirates to stop ‘Hindu meal’ option. Let's too stop @emirates option while flying abroad."
Another twitter user Mr. Arvind Jain tweeted, "I boycott Emirates In protest till they apologise and restore Hindu meal. Request all Hindus to boycott Emirates also."
However, some say it is not a big deal. A twitter user Y. Meherbaba said, "What is the difference between a Hindumeal and a good Veg meal? No big deal if discontinued."
