Dr Reddy had been missing since Sunday night. Her body was found in a suitcase inside a car parked in Sydney's Kingsford area at 9.30pm on Tuesday.
Police say she had been stabbed multiple times.
The Indian community had been actively involved in the 32-year-old's search through social media. A Facebook page was set up by family members seeking help from the community.
Many have expressed tributes after the news of Preethi’s death became public Tuesday night.
Dr Deepak Rai of Westmead Children's hospital in Sydney's west knew Dr Reddy from Nepean Hospital and offered his condolences.
"It is a terrible news. I knew her from Napean. The whole medical fraternity is sad and shocked. My sincere condolences to the family."
Liberal NSW Legislative Council candidate Pallavi Sinha offered her condolences writing, “Condolences to the family & friends of young Dr Preethi Reddy. I'm very sad to read about her horrific murder. I'm in contact with her family & friends. Please note Prayers that were scheduled today for the late Preethi ji have been cancelled.”
Suzie Ratcliffe commented on the page, “On behalf of Leave A Light On, we would like to extend our sincerest condolences on the loss of your beautiful girl Preethi. Our thoughts are with family and friends at this time. R.I.P. Preethi.”
White Ribbon ambassador Amar Singh offered his condolences.
“RIP dear, I really wish you didn’t become another number in the statistics of young women taken away. My sincere condolences to the loved ones. May you Rest In Peace. As a White Ribbon Ambassador, it breaks my heart to see young women being taken in such a horrible way. (Sic),” he said.
Tarang Chawla, a 2017 Young Australian of the Year finalist for championing the cause of violence against women and whose sister was murdered in 2015 wrote on Facebook that Preethi is the 11th woman to have been murdered in 2019.
"I'm sorry that this happened to you Preethi, I am sorry for your family, your friends and loved ones. I'm sorry for your patients and your colleagues. I'm sorry for those who knew you and those who ever got the chance. RIP Preethi."
Another community member Rajesh Kumar of Sydney wrote, “It's such heartbreaking news. May her soul rest in peace.”
Police continue investigation
New South Police police have extended their condolences to the Reddy family.
'To the community, to the businesses that came out and supported us in our investigation from the outset, I'd like to thank you. We need the community's help and this is a great example of how the community came on board and gave us help straight away to locate Preethi," Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate, Sydney City Police Area Commander told reporters.
As an appeal continues for people to come forward police said they do have a line of inquiry.
"We do know a former boyfriend was killed on the outskirts of Tamworth in a motor vehicle accident, he said.
"At this stage, we know they met up in Sydney." Police also confirmed that he was part of a missing person's inquiry and had spoken to him before his death.
