Adani Mining has thanked the people of Queensland and has demanded the state’s Labor Government ‘start listening to the people of Queensland’ after Labor Party lost 27 per cent of their primary vote in the state, thus ensuring Coalition government’s re-election.

While Mr Shayne Neumann, MP for Labor’s only remaining Queensland regional seat in Blair said the state government’s indecision and forced delays with the Adani coal mine in central Queensland damaged federal Labor’s prospects in the region, the Liberal MP Michelle Landry, who won the seat of Capricornia in Queensland by a massive swing of 10.7 per cent, says she won the seat of Capricornia partly because Labor failed to support the Adani coal mine.

“They need to make a decision on the Adani project, they can’t procrastinate anymore, Queenslanders need certainty, they require that for regional and rural Queensland,’’ said Mr Neumann to The Australian.

On the other hand, Ms Landry told 3AW, “The Queensland state Labor government just won’t support the Adani project.

“I never expected a swing like that, it was absolutely incredible.”

The Adani Mining CEO in a statement said that people had ‘seen through the political rhetoric and tactics’ and called for the state politicians to ‘listen’ to the people of Queensland.

“If the Queensland Labor Premier and Deputy Premier take nothing else from this weekend, let’s hope they realise it is time to start listening to the people of Queensland and in particular people in regional Queensland.

“Even after the weekend’s election, where Queenslanders had their say, the Premier and Deputy Premier still have a tin ear to their own voters,” CEO of Adani Mining, Lucas Dow said.

He called the state government to stop shifting the goalposts and ‘get the Carmichael Project done’.

“While there are many reasons people vote the way they do, we know from our own conversations, the grassroots regional rallies, the open letters to politicians, the editorials from local publicans, and the plight of small business owners, people see through the political rhetoric and tactics.

“As evidenced by this weekend’s election results, Queenslanders have no tolerance for political actions that are unjust and put people’s livelihoods at risk,” he said.

“It’s time for the Queensland Labor Government to stop shifting the goal posts and let us get on with delivering these jobs for regional Queenslanders. “It is time to get the Carmichael Project done.”
