Melbourne driver charged after 2 children killed in three-car-collision

A 41-year-old driver was charged on Tuesday evening over a fatal three-car-collision in Truganina.

A man has been charged with negligence and culpable driving after a three-car-collision in Melbourne's west which caused the deaths of a ten-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy. 

Victoria Police allege the fatal crash occurred around midnight on Sunday after the man who was driving a Ford Territory overtook a Honda SUV on Hopkins Road in Truganina and collided head-on with a Ford Focus. 

A ten-year-old Indian-Australian girl who was travelling inside the Ford Focus died at the scene. A four-year-old Indian-Australian boy from the same vehicle was critically injured in the crash and transported to the Royal Childrens Hospital where he died on Monday night. 

The female driver of the Ford Focus remains at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition, SBS Malayalam has been told. Another person involved in the collision has reportedly since been released from hospital.

A 41-year-old driver from Rockbank and sole occupant of the vehicle was charged on Tuesday evening with negligence causing serious injury and two counts of culpable driving. He remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The Honda SUV also involved in the fatal collision was carrying five people who all escaped unharmed.  

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the traffic incident.
