Nadiya Hussain's Great British Bake Off win drew in a staggering 15 million viewers last year, and it seems Her Majesty The Queen may have been one of them.
The reality show star has been commissioned to create a cake for Queen Elizabeth II’s milestone 90th birthday this week and admits she’s feeling pretty overwhelmed.
Breaking the exciting news to English panel show Loose Women, Nadiya could hardly compose herself, stammering “the words aren’t coming out, hold on, I have to compose myself… I’m making the Queen’s 90th birthday cake!”
The Bangladeshi-born Brit plans to go all out for the task and is opting for a citrusy palate.
She will be baking an orange drizzle cake with orange curd and buttercream topped with fondant (citrus was also the theme for a cake she featured in her column in The Times, below).
And if the pressure of creating the perfect flavour combination isn’t enough, Nadiya will be presenting her work to the Queen in person at Windsor Castle on Thursday.
We can’t wait to see what it looks like.
