Gough Whitlam gave Immigration Minister Al Grasby $38,000 to start ethnic radio in Sydney and Melbourne. Universal health care was introduced. A house cost $38,000 and a Hungarian professor invented the Rubik's cube.

Spanish dictator Franco dies. The Lebanese civil war begins. 5 Australian journalists are killed when Indonesia invades East Timor. Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge take over Cambodia, and for the first time this.

Came to our lounge rooms in full colour. And if you wanted to watch it again, the first Betamax would set you back $2500. I'm Anton Enis for SBS's 50th anniversary. That was 1975.
