Twenty-six might sound like a young age for a mere mortal, but for science-fiction series, The X-Files, you could say it’s aged gracefully. The series is said to be one of the longest-running science fiction television series’ and SBS VICELAND has announced that for the very first time it will air on Australian television, remastered in HD.

There are plenty of dark, suspense-filled scenes as villains become uncovered – the perfect opportunities to hoe into an extra-terrestrial snack. But how will you decide what to eat? Well, here are five meal pairings for the first five episodes of season one (no spoilers) while you wait to see what detectives Fox Mulder and Dana Scully uncover next…

1. Paranormal activity

Episode one: Mulder and Scully are assigned to work with one another on a paranormal activity case involving alien abductions. We can’t say for sure, but if any alien colony is known for baking, they probably already serve these during significant holidays or when there's an intergalactic friend visiting.

2. The pilot

Episode two: The duo is investigating the disappearance of a military pilot in Idaho. Get stuck into the defence force theme with this spicy, noodle-filled Korean military stew.

3. Get stuffed

Episode three: Without giving too much away, this episode’s offender has a history of gorging [on humans] before tucking away for a thirty-year nap. Stuff yourself with a big tray of this waffle, maple and sausage stuffing at your viewing party and guests are sure to sleep soundly with full bellies.

4. Channelling childhood

Episode four: Detective Mulder becomes obsessed over a case with a close link to his childhood and estranged sister, Samantha. Channel your inner American child with these mac and cheese cupcakes. If you prefer a bowl of gooey cheesy pasta just skip the baking step and tuck in. If you’re feeling ambitious try the Heston Blumenthal version.

5. New Jersey flavour

Episode five: The state of New Jersey is known for producing a few things: one is a legendary folkloric creature capable of murder, according to The X Files; the other is Jersey potatoes. Scoff down a slice of this potato and chorizo tortilla while Scully and Mulder uncover the creepy Jersey killer. As a bonus, here are two notable food moments from the series: during episode 10 of season 2, Mulder wipes the sauce from barbecue ribs from Scully’s face, and in season 3 episode 20, Mulder is said to have eaten a whole sweet potato pie while questioning a diner cook. There's plenty fo food spots to fill your plates alongside the series.
