1. That's just silly (which is good)
If you are wondering what the point of talking like a pirate is, pop on over to the Talk Like a Pirate website, where the two mates who founded it (and are still slightly bemused at its popularity) explain that no, it’s not about celebrating pirates (“Pirates were and are bad people”). It's just a chance to be rather silly. Sounds good to us!
Peter Kuravita knows his seafood. Here he tops wok-fried prawns with a sauce loaded with curry leaves, garlic, ginger and chilli. We think any sensible pirate would approve.

Want something a little more formal to get you in the mood? How about Shane Delia’s Boat smuggler's fish stew: tamarind and pork belly stew with prawn mousse stuffed red mullet.

4. The scheepskok made these but the capitein ate the lot
Over at the Talk Like a Pirate website, you can learn how to talk like a Dutch pirate. Make salt and pepper squid with five-spice to snack on while you polish up your Dutch pirate-isms.

5. Let them eat cake(s) before they walk the plank
Fish cakes by Gourmet Farmer Matthew Evans, that is. You can use almost any kind of fish for these.

6. Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum...
Where’s that line from? If you said Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, help yourself to an extra serve of almond, apple and rum fruit pudding.
