Delicious dishes Pauline Hanson should try

The One Nation leader has been invited out for pho soup and pork rolls after claiming Australia is "in danger of being swamped by Asians". Here's a couple other joints she may like to try when she makes her triumphant return to the nation's capital.

After an 18 year absence from the political scene, Pauline Hanson is back.

The controversial politician is set to return to the nation’s capital for the new sitting of parliament - possibly with another One Nation colleague in tow - after her party claimed nine per cent of Queensland's Senate vote.

Following her debut media address as Senator-elect, in which she claimed "we are in danger of being swamped by Asians", Australia’s race discrimination commissioner Dr Tim Soutphommasane has offered an olive branch of sorts by inviting Ms Hanson to enjoy “a pho soup or pork roll" with him to chat about her questions on race and immigration.

The commissioner - who is himself of Asian heritage - warned her vocal anti-Muslim and Asian beliefs could spark hatred, telling the ABC, “There's great potential for harm to be done when you're talking about inflammatory rhetoric or appeals to xenophobia."

The invite comes after Iranian-born Labor senator Sam Dastyari offered to take One Nation leader out for a Halal snack pack during a live television interview at the weekend, only to be spectacularly shut down.

“Not happening. Not interested in Halal, thank you.... I don't believe in Halal certification,” she said in reply.

While she may not have accepted the latter, Ms Hanson will have no shortage of choices should she choose to break away from her trusty fish 'n chips while in Canberra.

There are a number of restaurants within a two and a half kilometre radius of Parliament House that serve cuisines from across the globe including two Turkish and three Asian.

According to diners on Trip Advisor, the sashimi, Wagyu beef and miso black cod are excellent at Japanese eatery Lilotang.

Fusion Malaysian dishes like roast duck rice paper rolls and beef rendang and Teochew pork are on offer at Abell’s Kopi Tiam, while nearby Morks serves modern Thai.

Should her palate swing more towards the Middle East, Turkish restaurant Ottoman Cuisine and take-away joint Turkish Halal Pide House both rank within Trip Advisor’s "Top ten restaurants in Canberra" and serve meaty meals at opposite ends of the price scale.

Failing these options of course, Ms Hanson always be able to purchase some beer battered fish and sweet potato fries from the Parliament’s in house cafe.
