And while the horsey dance will soon have gone the way of the macarena, the wonderful thing is that South Korea is now firmly in the global spotlight.
We were inspired by Psy (and the growing ranks of well-groomed Korean pop stars who you can watch on SBS’s PopAsia TV) to discover what’s popular to eat in the Seoul suburb of Gangnam – our delicious findings can be found on page 84. The Korean sliders with bulgogi (barbecued beef) are especially moreish.
While Korean food is an emerging trend, Thai is an unquestionabe favourite here, so we asked Amy Chanta, of Chat Thai restaurant fame, to share some of her favourite street food from Bangkok. Turn to page 75 for recipes including her easy fried rice, which has a wonderfully smoky flavour and chunks of pork belly.
We also take a closer look at Peruvian cuisine, which is on the rise world-over. Peruvian chef Alejandro Saravia, (who appeared in episode two of the new Food Safari series, screening on SBS ONE on Thursdays at 7.30pm), let us step into the kitchen of his Sydney restaurant Morena to learn how he incorporates ancient ingredients into his modern dishes – see page 94.
And, of course, who can go past chocolate at Easter time? In addition to the irresistible chocolate and hazelnut pizza on our cover, we’ve turned up the heat with our Mexican chilli chocolate cake, crumbly Lebanese halva and a true Aussie favourite – turn to page 61 for your next chocolate adventure.
