Now, the first issue has been consumed (literally) and the feedback from you, our readers, has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s been wonderful to hear about the chords the magazine has struck, the meals it has created and the holiday plans that are underway. It seems that you are all fascinated by the stories behind the food and are keen to share your own experiences with us. Thank you!
In this issue, we are lucky enough to sample dishes by SBS’s Italian Food Safari co-host, Guy Grossi, and discover how he’s giving Italian cuisine a Melbourne twist. A trip to New Delhi uncovers the vast array of street food on offer, while the SBS documentary season inspires a New York deli menu. We also learn about Moroccan classics and reveal recipes using freekeh – an ancient, wheat-based grain.
One of my favourite features in this issue is our story on Slow Food – we talk to four migrants and refugees in Perth about their cultures and, of course, the foods of their homeland. Many of their recipes have been passed down by oral tradition and it’s a great privilege to put them to paper and taste the results along the way. We also join a Serbian Orthodox family in Sydney to celebrate their Saint Day – a time of faith, reflection and gratitude – and share a feast of authentic Serbian dishes.
Many of you have written to us recommending food shops and restaurants we should visit and we look forward to receiving more suggestions from you. Email us at feast@pacificmags.com.au or visit us at sbs.com.au/food/feast. And don’t forget about our Feast cookalong blog – we’d love to see the results of your time in the kitchen.
Until next month, happy feasting!
